Matt Hoover is a staff archaeologist at CRA’s Knoxville, Tennessee office. He obtained both his BA and MA in Anthropology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in December of 2014 and January 2023, respectively. During his undergraduate career, he took numerous courses about North American archaeology and completed two field schools, the first at the Bells Bend site in central Tennessee and the second at a mortuary archaeology site in Drawsko, Poland. After completing his BA, Matt worked as an archaeological technician for almost 6 years for several different firms, traveling as far as Maine and Puerto Rico for projects. In 2020, he began the Anthropology Master’s program at UTK under the advisorship of Dr. David G. Anderson, where he defended a thesis concerning assemblage matrices at Fort Johnson, Louisiana. After graduating from his MA program, Matt worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority as a contractor in the Cultural Compliance unit for 10 months before being hired on at CRA.

 

In his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife Sade and their two dogs and two cats and playing with his band. He loves museums, music, and being outside, and traveling when time allows. He has played the guitar for 19 years and has been in several bands you’ve never heard of.
