He has a decade of experience in a wide variety of geographic areas, including the southeast, the midcontinent, and the southwest.

Mason was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky before attending Sewanee: the University of the South. Graduating in 2014 with his B.A., Mason worked as a crew chief at Statistical Research, Inc. in Tucson, Arizona. After two years of conducting archaeological investigation in the Sonoran, Chihuahuan, and Mojave deserts, Mason studied anthropology at the University of Kansas, receiving his M.A. in 2018. He continued his studies into the PhD program. His dissertation focuses on the stratigraphic contexts and the site formation processes affecting a dry, deeply stratified rockshelter in the Big Bend region of Texas. He anticipates graduating in December of 2022.

Outside of archaeology, Mason enjoys spending time with his dog, family, and friends. He spends much of his spare time cooking new recipes and reading.
