Sam Pomier joined CRA as an architectural historian in 2026. Prior to developing an interest in historic architecture, Sam’s early academic career focused on eighteenth and nineteenth century American history. While working on her bachelor’s degree in history and archaeology at the University of Virginia, she worked as a researcher for the Papers of George Washington and interned for the Washington Library at Mount Vernon. For her senior thesis, she won a research grant to perform an architectural survey and conduct archival research in Paris, France. Her time in Europe prompted her to subsequently pursue a master’s degree in history at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
Throughout her professional career, Sam has conducted fieldwork, researched, and prepared written reports for a wide range of projects such as historic bridge surveys, documentary studies, property histories, and viewshed analyses. She has worked with private clients and government agencies to evaluate the potential effects that projects may have on sites listed in, or determined eligible for listing in, the National Register of Historic Places. Her experience includes working in various localities across Virginia, which include but are not limited to the city of Alexandria, the city of Portsmouth, Loudoun County, and Prince William County.
Outside of work, Sam enjoys vinyl record collecting and acoustic guitar playing. She also enjoys traveling with friends and family whenever possible.
