DESCRIPTION

Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. seeks a mid-level Architectural Historian to work out of our Lexington, KY office. Applicants should have an understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and applicable Section 106 regulations. Previous experience with some or all of the following is required: architectural resource surveys, Section 106 compliance, and/or National Register of Historic Places nominations. Previous experience with HABS/HAER documentation, design guidelines, historic structure reports, preservation planning, and/or researching and designing interpretive materials such as signage and brochures also is desirable. Familiarity with Kentucky Heritage Council and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet guidelines and expectations is a plus.

 

The position is a full-time, salaried position with a full benefit package.  Salary for this position is between $50,000 and $60,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

    • Completing historic architectural resource surveys from start to finish, including background research, context development, field documentation, report writing, and survey form preparation.
    • Evaluating historic architectural resources in relation to the National Register of Historic Places (NHRP) criteria and within the framework of the historic and architectural contexts developed for the project.
    • Assessing the effects of proposed undertakings on identified historic properties, in accordance with the regulations found at 36CFR Part 800.
    • Developing recommendations for the elimination, minimization, or mitigation of adverse effects (when appropriate), and assisting clients with Section 106 consultation to resolve adverse effects.
    • Leading, or contributing to, the development of other types of historic preservation documents, including National Register nominations, state-level and HABS/HAER/HALS documentation, historic context studies, historic preservation plans, and other projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

    • Possess a Master’s degree in historic preservation, architectural history, history, or related field;
    • Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications in Architectural History;
    • Demonstrate at least two years of relevant experience;
    • Work well independently and as a team member;
    • Have excellent technical writing skills;
    • Be able to work within project budgets and schedules; and
    • Have the flexibility to travel overnight for projects.

DESCRIPTION

CRA’s Shreveport, Louisiana office seeks a Laboratory Director, preferably with regional (Southeast and South Central) experience. The Laboratory Director is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring all laboratory processing and analyses. This is a supervisory position, and requires flexible and efficient time management skills and an ability to prioritize workload while supervising laboratory procedures for multiple projects. The minimum education requirement for this position is an undergraduate degree in anthropology with a specialization in archaeology, and it requires at least five years of experience working in an archaeology laboratory, three of which were in a supervisory position. The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of both prehistoric and historic archaeology and related practices and artifacts. The required skill set includes outstanding written and verbal communication skills, excellent personal computer skills, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat and other word processing and spreadsheet programs. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented and logical, and will possess outstanding analytical and observation skills.

The position is a full-time, salaried position with a full benefit package.  Salary for this position is between $50,000 and $60,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    • Oversees laboratory technicians during processing and analyses of project collections;

Job Description and Responsibilities:

    • The Field Technician position is under the direction of Staff Archaeologists and Principal Investigators.
    • Project types may include archaeological monitoring, survey, evaluation, and data recovery projects, including projects that will require stays away from home that vary from overnight to multiple weeks depending on the project.
    • Depending on experience and qualifications, duties may range from performing pedestrian and shovel testing reconnaissance, assisting in activities associated with the excavation of sites and features, screening, backfilling excavated areas, and cleaning/packaging/labeling archaeological artifacts, to being assigned phase I (inventory-level survey) and, to a lesser extent, phase II (National Register evaluation) projects.  This may involve (1) conducting pre-field research, (2) directing fieldwork and laboratory analyses, and (3) preparing technical reports.

Qualifications:

    • One year of experience as a field technician, the completion of an archaeological field school, and certification as a Registered Archaeologist (or meet the requirements) are preferred, but if one has the ability and motivation to learn, and is a team player, inexperienced candidates may be considered.
    • Ability to work in a variety of field conditions, and to navigate efficiently in remote areas;
    • Must be able to stoop, bend, lift heavy objects, work while standing, and do general manual labor such as digging, sifting, and moving wheel barrows of dirt from one location to another.
    • Must be able to walk/hike in rough and/or sloped terrain in variable weather conditions, be physically fit, and be able to work ten to twelve hour days (or longer if necessary) in a variety of conditions.

Seasonal Field Technician (Sheridan, Wyoming)

Employment Type: Temporary; Hourly

Compensation: $18 – $21 hourly rate, based on experience; $55 per diem minimum while in the field

 

DESCRIPTION

The Rocky Mountain Divisional Office of Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. is seeking seasonal field technicians for multiple inventory projects primarily in Wyoming but could also include projects in Colorado and Nebraska. These projects are either currently in progress or will commence shortly.

 

Fieldwork is expected to last for several weeks. A bachelor’s degree or higher and demonstrated Class III inventory experience are required. All candidates must be able to hike with a field pack 8-10 miles a day over steep uneven terrain. Fieldwork at times will be conducted at elevations exceeding 8,000 ft. The ideal candidate will have experience working on timber remediation, and/or wind development projects and be able to work independently. They will also have experience with and be familiar with operating Trimble GPS units and basic digital cameras. Also these projects will be based out of small towns with limited resources, so please be prepared.

 

Pay will be commensurate with experience and will be competitive with the local market ranging from $18 to $21 an hour. Overtime pay will be paid at time and half over 40 hours a week. CRA will provide single occupancy housing (when possible) and at least $55 a day per diem while in the field. These positions are temporary, but employees who excel in their work will be considered for continuing work after the field season.

Architectural Historians (Disaster Recovery Support Opportunity)

Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. (CRA) is seeking mid-level  Architectural Historians in support of the recovery activities and undertakings of FEMA for presidentially declared disasters in the state of AL, CT, DE, FL, GA, KY, MA, MD, ME, MS, NC, NH, PA, RI, SC, TN, VA, VT, and WV. These activities include assistance to ensure expeditious resolution of issues associated with compliance with environmental and historic preservation laws, regulations, and EOs, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), among others. FEMA support will be provided in reviewing recovery projects within the designated disaster areas to ensure that these actions comply with environmental and historic preservation laws, regulations, and EOs. This support will generally require staff in Joint Field Offices or other area field offices as needed.

 

U.S. citizenship and a valid driver’s license are required for these positions. Candidates must have either an advanced degree in Historic Preservation or Architectural History and 5 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience; senior-level applicants should have either an advanced degree in Historic Preservation or Architectural History and 10 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and 15 years of experience. Candidate familiarity and availability to meet emergent requests and rapid mobilizations are essential, as deployment notices may come as little as 48 hours’ in advance. Successful candidates are preferably those who are currently FEMA badged or have been previously badged, and can demonstrate disaster response experience.

 

Candidates must demonstrate the technical expertise required to identify historic properties, evaluate the effects of projects on historic properties, and have experience coordinating and consulting with State Historic Preservation Officers. Additionally, candidates must be detail oriented, well-organized, an excellent verbal and written communicator, and technologically proficient with experience in working with databases.
