Chelsey Johnson joined the Tennessee office of CRA in November of 2021. She holds master’s degrees in History and Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Her graduate research and coursework focused on the material culture and vernacular architecture of Appalachia, as well as historic and contemporary folk traditions and foodways of the region. She has conducted a variety of independent preservation research and documentation projects, including a National Register of Historic Places Historic District nomination for what is thought to be the earliest collection of International Style dwellings in the region.

Outside of work, Chelsey spends her time cooking, learning textile crafts, and trying to convince her two cats to become friends.
