Jennifer Barber has conducted archaeological fieldwork since 1998 while at SUNY Albany. She holds a master's degree in anthropology, with a focus on historical archaeology from the University of Tennessee. She primarily works on sites in the Ohio Valley Region, and she has conducted fieldwork or research in Belize, New York, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, and Missouri. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Register of Professional Archaeologists, Kentucky Organization of Professional Archaeologists, and Society for Historical Archaeology.
Having joined CRA in January 2003, Jennifer first served as a Field Supervisor then as a Principal Investigator. She also specializes in historic materials analysis and conducts archival research and oral history interviews to supplement archaeological data. She supervises and authors reports for phase I, II, and III projects, and her work also involves field, laboratory, and management duties; developing budgets; and writing research designs and data recovery plans.
When she is not working, Jennifer and her husband tend to their household of critters, with the ultimate goal of saving every stray dog and cat on the planet. Preferring to be outside, she can frequently be found distance trail running or attempting a garden. When sitting still, she almost always has some knitting in hand, which is always interesting with so many cats.
