Architectural Historian

Ross Nelson began his employment at CRA in 2022.  A graduate of Ball State University’s Historic Preservation Program (2007), he has over 14 years of professional experience in the historic preservation field, with approximately 9 years working as an Architectural Historian/Principal Investigator. He has field experience in the states of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan.  Ross also worked at the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office as a Survey/National Register Manager, where he reviewed National Register nominations and Ohio Historic Inventory forms.

He first became interested in historic preservation while attending graduate school for history at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV). While attending UNLV, he co-wrote two National Register nominations, worked for the National Park Service for a summer, and was a clerk at the Department of Energy’s Nevada Operations Office, where he researched and maintained a database of artifacts related to the Nevada Test Site.

Outside of work, Ross likes to research genealogy, go hiking, work in the garden, and spend time with his family.
