Architectural Historian

Melissa Butler is an architectural historian based out of CRA’s Richmond office. She received her undergraduate degree in Art History from the University of St Andrews, Scotland in 2015, where she fell in love with the historic built environment. She returned to the States to pursue a career in historic preservation and architectural history. Melissa received her master’s degree from the University of Maryland’s Historic Preservation Program in 2017.


Since entering the CRM field in 2018, Melissa has worked on a variety of projects across the east coast for public sector and private clients. Melissa’s responsibilities for CRA include survey, documentation, and preparing reports to summarize findings on historic resources.


Outside of work, you’ll find Melissa long distance running on one of Virginia’s great trails or plein air painting
